I've been a bit of a night owl lately skipping sleep in favor of chasing stars. With the weather here in the Pacific Northwest being so wet this spring, the opportunities to take advantage of Milky Way season have been few and far between. On this night, I arrived about an hour before sunset in stormy conditions and watched the wind blow the clouds through with the sunset. Finally a clear night. Even though there was a narrow window between the rise of the Milky Way and the just-over-half-full moon, I managed to get a few shots off.

I've been having mixed results with image stacking, especially for night shots. Sometimes they work well, others, not so much. I wanted to add more images to this stack for noise reduction, but I began to lose clarity.

This is a 4 image stack. Two for the foreground and two for the sky.

Nikon 14-24 2.8
ISO 6400
f/2.8

Sky-30 sec.
Foreground-2 min.

Another really neat MW image Jeff!
Not only the sky, but the falls came out looking cool!
My only critique here is that there is a definite magenta cast visible on the rock faces....again, a minor tweak

Me and the magenta casts... I could see that, and thought I had addressed it. Now that you mention it I really see it again. Definitely seems more overt in the sRGB than the tiff file. Anyway, thanks John. I appreciate the critical eye. I did another pass at toning it down.

Like a painting. Would make a nice large print. Well composed and plenty of interest for the eye throughout the image.

+1  The magenta reduction has really helped with this lovely composition Jeff.  A beautiful scene - and image!

I really like this one, particularly the swirl captured in the big pool. I might tone the blues down in water, but the repost is very nice as is.
