Canon 1D Mk IV
Tamron 17-35 f/4 @30mm
f/22, 1/15 sec
iso 100
Manual exposure

I'm having trouble with these - my foregrounds seem darker than in my viewer or looking in PS6; Likewise, here they seem to lack the "glow" or saturation. I'm thinking it might just be white vs. black backgrounds.  Any ideas?

Comments, constructive criticism, and re-posts always welcome.

It definitely looks better when you click on it to get a darker background. That helps bring out the details in the foreground. But this is a very challenging situation for a camera like the 1D4 which has very limited dynamic range by today's standards, even for Canon which struggles in that department to begin with compared to other brands. Something like a 5D4 would have dramatically more information in the foreground due to having about 2 stops more dynamic range than a 1D4. A D750, D810, a7R2 or a7R Mk II would have 3 stops more...

With a 1D4 you would be better off if you took two exposures and then blended them.

I'm really liking this one.
When viewed full size against the darker b/g...the lighting looks very natural!
