A couple of weeks ago the Northern Lights were very strong for 3-4 evenings! On this night on the Gunflnt Trail in NE MN! I traveled to W. Bearskin Lake to capture the lights! Around 10:00PM they were not very strong so I did a 32 minute star trail! Shortly after this was completed, the fog from the lake totally engulfed me and the light shooting was done for the night!  But I did get this one image!

Nikon 14-24mm @ 14mm
ISO 400
F-3.2  @ 4 minute X 8 = 32minutes
Stacked in Photoshop CC

So cool. I especially like that even the reflection of the stars are captured so well.

I like your composition of the landscape and position of Polaris here. Well done!

Nice one John!
Congrats on getting this one done before the fog rolled in.
Not sure if we are seeing some light pollution or not....you may wish to tweak the WB to adjust..

It's a very cool shot. I think I'd be tempted to use a lower wight balance but that's just a personal preference. The trails are really thick and could be toned down in post by applying the Photoshop Minimum (Filters>Other>Minimum) filter and experiment with the radius but probably something like 3 pixels.

Wow!  Fantastic image!

Just went back and looked at the meta.  Oh, so I guess you experimented to find the proper exposure and then stacked a number of images, eachl at that exposure?
Anyway, I have to get out in the next few nights to give this a go.

That is what I did, I took 8 individual exposure with all the same settings! Edited the one in post-processing, copied all those settings to the other iamges and stacked in Photoshop CC
