Scots Pines along the shore of Loch an Eilein, Scottish Highlands.

I love being in a forest and these old Scots Pines can grow wonderful root formations which can take on a life of their own.  A true feast for the senses with the sights, sounds and aromas of the earth, trees and pine resin.

I love photographing in woods too. I like this shot although I think it could use a bit of mid tone contrast. Compositionally, I think the tree in the left mid part of the frame with the intricate root network would have made a better foreground subject than the one coming off of the frame on the left hand side.

Carol, I really like this image. it gives me the inspiration to go out and take a second look at my surroundings on my daily hikes. Gosh, I long to go back to the Highlands, a week was not enough.

Thanks for posting this one.

I really like this one...I feel like I am walking through there and can smell those pines!
Definitely agree on the contrast point...bumping that would really give this one a boost.
As for comp....I know how hard it is to find that ideal comp in a forest like this. I think you have done well.

Thanks Rob, I used to pass through landscapes on my search for wildlife, now I want to stop and take a longer look at the natural scenery on our travels and make a half decent image of the land as well as the wildlife.  A week is never enough in Scotland.

I love this -- as others mentioned a touch more contrast might be good.

snazzy image Carol. I like it here, maybe a little more contrast and it is vekrligen a challenge to compose this type of subject. I think you have done well.
