Devil's Post Pile is in the Eastern Sierras, right outside of Mammoth Lakes. The trail between Devil's Post Pile and Rainbow Falls is one of my favorites in the area. These formations are columnar basalt created some 100,000 years ago. Columnar jointing occurs when certain types of lava contract while cooling, making interesting hexagon pillars. (Thanks Wikipedia)
