Devil's Post Pile is in the Eastern Sierras, right outside of Mammoth Lakes.  The trail between Devil's Post Pile and Rainbow Falls is one of my favorites in the area. These formations are columnar basalt created some 100,000 years ago. Columnar jointing occurs when certain types of lava contract while cooling, making interesting hexagon pillars. Thanks for looking and any comments!

Wade: Love the scene and comp. I might be tempted to boost the contrast a touch for a more graphical presentation. >=))>

I like the linearity of the upper columns contrasting with the broken jumbled basalt chunks on the bottom.

If this were not in b/w I could say it was emerald color in my imagination. It looks majestic. does the sunrise or sunset every glow off this? this is quite different.
