I posted this in color a couple of weeks ago. I recently got a new scan of it and I did a quick gray scale conversion to check the color balance of the sky against the hills. Low and behold, I liked it in B&W better, so I worked with it some to give it some more contrast.

Hi Dan,

Those are incredible layers. This really does look good in b/w. I am just learning about b/w conversion so take this advice as coming from a novice ... you might want to brighten that fog just a bit. It seems a little too gray to me. You could use the bottom half of the frame as a monitor calibration test ... how many layers can you see? :) Great image.

I really like this B&W version - great use of the gray scale!

I like this one. That foreground branch anchors it nicely.

Remember the first one in color as well, but agree it does look great in BW! Really makes it more dark and mysterious.

Dark, mysterious, moody - very effective. The more I look at it, the more I like it. (12 layers?) I would be tempted to do a very small crop at the top to reduce the amount of sky.

the B&W really emphasizes the graphic quality to these layers. I like the progression from black to light gray - I might also crop a touch off the top.
