I love gnarled trees and roots, and was delighted to find this one at Gooseberry Falls, Minnesota's North Shore last July. The tree is growing on a spit of land beneath the falls, and requires a long lens to isolate it. I wanted to include a hint of the falls, which are visible on the left side of the image. I have this in color as well, but I'm partial to the b&w version, shot several minutes apart from one another.

Works very well in B&W. You have lots of nice images from Gooseberry Falls S.P.

This is really lovely Danny - it has a very gentle feeling to it and the waterfalls give it a sort of ethereal feeling. The composition feels superbly balanced to me.

Very nice Danny! :) It has an almost storybook quality to it which I love. I think the B&W really brings out the textures.

Very nice and it works in B&W. Did you took a picture of the roots only?

Monochrome works well here to really show off the textures and shapes of these knarled roots.

You did a great job showing a range of textures from the gnarly roots to the misty falls. I like this a lot!
