These are NOT clouds. This is smoke from the forest fires in Glacier NP back in July.

Smoke can make for some incredible skys and you certainly captured that here.

Self critique: What would you think of cropping the water out? I sort of like it...

Ken,

Colorful sky indeed! I like the water but I think it would benefit from being a bit brighter. I would try to mask the sky off as is and brighten the rest somewhat.

I think we just missed each other the evening you shot this. Was this from the beach at Apgar? I have a vertical that's similar but lighter and with more pink/purple.

I was going to say that I prefer this with the water, but I'd brighten it up a bit, but Anders beat me to it :)

Very cool sky. I like the idea of cropping the water as I feel it is a bit 'messy' and doesn't seem to add to the composition.

cheers,
Eric

What an amazing sky. I really like the water included but I am not as sure about the shore in the foreground. Scrolling up and down I kind of like this with just the small strip of water included.

I don't think this needs anything to improve it. There's a slight oversharpening halo probably from resampling.

Nice one Ken.

I have a similar shot from that same night but looking 90 to the right. Same "clouds"with rocks in the water. I'll post it soon.

Danny, this was the night we were all going to shoot Lake MacDonald together, but I think there was a mixup because you were in Apgar but we were at the lodge. I'd love to see what you got looking over the whole lake.

John
