Hi all,

Great to see this place!!

Here is an 'oldie' from a few months ago, but I have cleaned it up significantly in PS based on earlier comments (thanks Dan!) and
improved PS skills.

Comments and reposts welcome. Please hammer on!

This is a gorgeous shot. Was a GND used? If so, I think one more stop of GND density would make this even better than it already is.

EJ,

No ND. This is a digital combo to achieve the same effect.

However, I see here that I screwed up the colors entirely.
Just installed a new monitor (19" - clearly better for PS use)
on my other machine, and here back on the old reasonably well
calibrated monitor it looks terrible. I see a significant blue cast
and too bright sky. Oh well, I only briefly tested it before and then
it looked good - shame on me.

I find Bean Hollow to be a very difficult place to find an effective composition for some reason, despite it having some of the coolest coastal formations around the area. This is much better than anything I've come back with from there. Is this from the same day as our outing? Looks like the same clouds.

I'd be tempted to work the contrast in the mid-ground a bit more - it looks a bit flatter than the foreground.

I remember this shot. Sorry to be a pain but I would like to see the foregroud still lighter. I find that it's hard to keep my focus from contstantly going towards the top.

A magical shot, but I do agree that just one more stop of ND would have made this even more spectacular...more forground detial...more even light in the sky...but this image is still outstanding!
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

Steve,

Yes, this is from our outing. I've been back quite a few times since then but never had as good light as then. We were pretty lucky.

Dan,

I couldn't agree more. I actually worked quite a lot on this on my ill-calibrated monitor, inspired by your repost from back then.

It actually looks pretty good on that monitor, but I didn't at all realize how off it was. This is the final drop. I'm taking the plunge into color calibration.
Any advice on what to get?

Thanks for your comments!

I have a Colorvision Puck and PhotoCal software. It does a good calibration job and it's reasonably priced.
