From the Baja drive trip, December 2001. Steve had struck up a conversation the night before with a couple from So Cal we happened to run into in the middle of the Baja desert, and they invited us to spend the night in their one-room cabin. Lighting was by candle power. We were up early the next morning capturing the landscape. This is one of my very first attempts at using fill flash in a landscape. FWIW the cactus really is that color, and the early morning light showed it off to its best advantage.

Canon EOS 1z, Sigma 15-30mm lens, Provia 100f, tripod, flash setting forgotten. I cloned out some artifact in the sky caused by a reflection of the lens hood resulting from the angle of the flash. Then I cropped out most of what I had cloned.

Well done Lillian! My first impression was that you used a GND filter. I am really impressed with your use of fill flash. It makes for a stunning photograph which presents the landscape realisticly!!

Twas a neat place. I'll post an image of the cabin and area candlelit on the other forum. THis is one I did not see before, or at least remember. Great shot and better flash use than I had expected.

Very effective use of flash - it looks very natural - I would not have known you were using flash. Lovely colour palette too.

I like this, but I'm fascinated by the four plants that break the horizon line - I think they could make a fascinating abstract image with just them agains the colourful sky and no land. But that's probably just me!

Superb light.... Can't see any sign of flash and at first I though of what GND you had use. Lovely scene!

I almost never think to use flash in landscapes, and you've made it clear that I should try it. The colors and light are just wonderful!
