I spend most of my time shooting birds so I'm not much of a landscape photographer but when a scene like this is before me I just can't help myself! Lookinig at some of the images in this forum make me wish I had more time to spend on them. I photographed this in Glacier NP during the last week in June. I'm not much for image manipulation but I was tempted to "repair" the small dead parts on the evergreen in the forground. Thanks for looking.

Jim,

Amazing not a bird in sight. :D :D Great light and the clouds really make a good one. Like the way the water leads right into the image.

Really nice image Jim. I like the composition of this great vista. There is a lot going on in this shot. I keep looking for a raptor somewhere.

For someone who's not much of a landscape photographer you certainly have a good eye for landscape composition. The way the stream leads you into the photo is excellent. The only nit I have is I'd like to see this taken in better light. More toward sunrise or sunset.

Very nice shot!

It may just be an optical illusion, but this looks to me like it's leaning substantially to the right... (looking at the near and far cliff lines on the left side)

Jim,

Could of fooled me that your'e not a landscape photographer. What a rich image, pure eye candy. I love the warm light, and the splashes of color among the foreground green. The dappled light on the peak is wonderful as well. Just an all around excellent image. Man blow it up REAL big and show it off. :D

Very, very nice. To my eye, the "dead" spots in the evergreen add color rather than detracting from the image.

Very nice, Jim. You should probably give up on birds now and let the rest of us have a crack at them.

Very well done - I really like the composition. My only wish would be for a slower shutter speed to smooth out the water some but realize this is a highly personal taste thing.

Lots of elements here, but they work together well. You were lucky to have great clouds, since they add much IMO. Normally I much prefer waterfalls in soft overcast light, but I do like the "golden light" effect in this image. Very nice...you should point your lenses toward landscapes more often!

Hey Dan, If you look at about center left side of the image you will see a groove in the rocks and the light from that falling on the rocks to the right of it. This was early in the morning and the sun was coming low from over my left shoulder. I think it was within an hour or so of sunrise. It gets up pretty fast at the end of June though!

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Excellent composition and the cloud formations are magical. I think you took this shot at the right time and can notice the warm glow of the early morning. Great job!
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

Jim,

This is great. I like it a lot just as presented. The light is great IMO. Did you use any technique to control sky contrast? Looks like an ND was used to me, but I see no artifacts on the rock and you seem to imply that the image wasn't manipulated digitally?

Thanks Anders,
I used no filters and did no manipulation other than curves, levels etc to bring out detail in the shadowed side of the rocks etc.
