Here's the most-photographed tree in Imperial Country, CA. This image was taken during a camera club outting I led last fall. I have numerous images of this tree and the group of 3 it's a part of, I'll post a very different image next time.

We do get some nice winter sunsets down there.

Canon 1v, 28-135mm lens, Velvia, tripod, crouching in the muck for this one. Evaluative minus 1/3. Maybe enhancing filter?

A very, very lovely image, Lillian! I would like to have seen the very top of the branches, however.

Lillian,

Very colorful!!!
I like it a lot as is, but is there a possibly chance you could tease out a bit more tonal separation between the tree and the darker parts of the background?

Hi Lillian---I like the colors and layers and would like the birds and darker parts to be a bit sharper. Not sure what you would be referring to with an "enhancing filter" (?) Would you have had enough light?

Thanks for your comments. In the slide, the tree stands out fairly well from the dark part of the BG -- my old scanner (Nikon Coolscan 1000) tends to lose detail in both blacks and whites. I recently bought a Canoscan 4000 so suppose I could rescan.

The birds aren't totally sharp in any of the frames I took, because of the longish exposure times. The tree... I think it's sharp, it's a silhouette, but the small branches look pretty crisp to me.

As I recall I was actually using flash, trying to cast some detail on the tree but it didn't gain me anything I can see.

One of these days I'm going to print this so I'll keep all your comments in mind. Naturally I have several frames that are very similar so might pick another. I like the bird suspended on the right in this one.

Nice image Lillian, at first glance I thought they were the last few remaining leaves on the tree, then I realised they were birds!

I like silhouette shots and this is a good one!

Very nice indeed, and love the bird on the right coming in for a landing!
