I am redesigning the website for a local florist here in OKC. Can you give me your feedback on the design of the home page? I am not crazy about the text, but this is just a rough draft 8)

A few things:
-the petal/background pattern is competing with the text - making it hard to read
-the single photo background may cause formating problems for people with differently sized browswers
-I like the position of the in-focus detail of the flower, and their logo is in an okay spot

Thanks for the feedback. I was going to chop the image into smaller pieces and place inside a table. The text will be rollovers but I do agree that it competes with the petals. This was my main concern. Still working on it :D

If the BG was more petals (a softer color-texture) then that would work a bit better, since it's the contrast between yellow and black that sets up the interference.

Jorge agree with Matt on the on the competing bg and also your assessment of the text !!! Would go with a different font!!! As to the flower I have seen you post so many delicate flowers that don't understand the use of this one?

Are the colors of the flower-shop yellow and black? ...btw love the name 8) Do they specialize in a particular type/design? This will end up absolute killer!!!! 8)

They don't have a color scheme at the flower shop. I wondered about this particular flower. I am going to try a different design and post it on this thread tonight. Thanks guys for the feedback... it is VERY appreciated :D

How about this one? Does the yellow logo work in this one?

Pink on yellow - not so much - purple, perhaps - certainly a warm shade of yellow, but I think pink still sets up competition with color - but this seems to me the right track in terms of design.

Pink in the sign perhaps a little too blue, but definitely has a great feel to it. The offset text (which works better here) works with the focused stamens.

You've also got the benefit of all the shapes in the flower basically pouring out onto the logo and text, so that helps direct the viewer's attention.

George, It's great seeing how this is developing and improving!! Agree that the sign is a little too blue. Like this flower.

OK.. agree with the sign being too blue to I chose a different color. Also I changed the font and relocated the logo. What is your opinion of this setup?

This is fun :P

I liked the sign more off center. The color is much better. I have mixed feelings on the font of the lettering for the links. The latest looks more like florists, but I think I liked the font of the prior images.

This is fun!

What will be the dimensions of the pictures? If larger than that it will take a while to load... I think the home page should be less than 100 kB, much less if possible.

And for the other pages, will the menu stay in the same place?

I would try with a first page with a dark (black?) background with on top the logo and bellow the picture without text. Everything centered in the page. And the menu only on the other pages. Something like this: http://www.p-f.ch/tmp/flowers/a

But I much prefer the first image/colors and it will work very well as a background in the lower-left corner: http://www.p-f.ch/tmp/flowers/b

I find the original idea very heavy and oppressive. The pink version is getting better but is still quite heavy. With all your wonderful flower images - don't you have something more delicate and uplifting? :D

I've been trying to open this one for 2 days and couldn't work out why it would not load. I know now :D

Jorge, the last one with the Lily is a winner. Thats the one IMO. It has a great balance, not too close and its easy to understanding. EXCELLENT work on that one :D
