Not quite what I intended originally, but thought I'd post it anyway, and y'all could use it for a dart board! :) Kinda looks like Aunt Millie's paper weight, or maybe an egg gone wrong, don't you think?

well, it seems jpeg compression is hurting the details (well, that and 'upsizing' in the egg bubble :-p )
so that detracts for me...

i also think the sphere portion is too tight in the frame...you don't have enough 'normal' perspective around it to really show off the egg shape!

btw...try this for your next one..
make a selection around the sphere (doesn't have to be exact...but it works better when it is)
the take out the gradient tool, make the foreground color white, and change the gradient to the white fade to er...clear..
make a new layer
now click and drag the gradient down from the top of the sphere, to about the middle
deselect and hit "ctrl-t" for "free transform"
the pull the top-middle square down a bit, and both sides in...
and the bottom so it fades just before the middle of the sphere..
then lower the opacity a bit...so you can see through it just a bit..
this adds a nice touch to any spherical, shiny objects!

if you have any questions...pm me, or reply here...or whatever :-p

Great observations and suggestions, Vito. I like the flower that is selected, but it does need more room and a bit more contrast and luminosity. Gary, please repost if you do any more work on this. We'd like to see what you come up with. Thanks for sharing this one.

Very cool concept !!!!! Vito's idea are great !!!!! (might have to ask for some advice 8) ) I think if you increase the contrast and luminosity as Paul suggested it would have a killer look!!! 8) 8) 8)

I is a neat looking image !!!! Big Congrats !!!! 8) 8)

folks, all three of my recent sphere posts contain gradient shapes transformed to enhance the illusion of a round solid form. These are used over two or more layers of the distorted image of varying opacity blended to simulate highlight and shadow areas, to make a 'digital creation' and not just a distorted sharp photograph.

since these are not 'hit you in the face' effects, it may take a moment to notice them, just as it would if you were looking at a droplet in nature --
YMMV...

thanks again for looking! :)

Thanks fro the explanation Gary!!! I don't know if I am so used to colors that pop out of the frame that I thought the increase in contrast would help? 8) 8)

It all depends on what your goals are !!! The image is beautiful as presented and must make a great Print!!! 8) 8)

well, what i'm talking about, would be like adding a reflection to a glass ball...
for many things, it works well to add definition to the 3d object...

thanks very much for having another look Alfred. I made some layer adjustments to give a somewhat more 'glassy' appearance, though it's still pretty ragged... and what was that you said about the rule of thirds?

we know, Vito, we know... :) :)

seriously thanks for having another look! :)

this composite shows the location of the gradients -- I guess it's a matter of taste, and maybe I should make them a little more apparent... if you can't see them what good are they? :?

btw, I'm surprised you didn't comment on the distorted bee in flight!

Really good stuff!!!! Big Congrats !!! 8) 8)

oh ok, i see ;)

if you make them more solid, and visible (are they at a different blending mode right now? overlay?)
it would be great..

nice work with the second, the added contrast suits it!

dude...noticed the bee..but not that it was in flight!
so hott man!

thanks to all for the suggestions -- this version is better defined, more 'glassy' than the last, and hopefully, closer to what everybody finds more attractive... :) most important, I have a much better idea of what 'works'!!!
