For what it's worth, "my uncomfortable" section was that the programs I am using only work for certain types of images and wasn't sure how they would be received.  (was looking to produce a darker edge and mood but sometimes my efforts were a little too dingy).   My thanks to everyone for their feedback.

Hey Dave- that's one amazing gaze from the King. I like that you kept his face intact and a portion of his mane. The background looks great too. Altogether an impressive creation!
The two things I wonder about with this one are
1-the intense black on his right side-to me it is a bit distracting and a bit puzzling-it seems there is not much transition from his face to that area.
2- the rest of his body looking more like the foliage than part of the lion. Perhaps that is intended-I assume it is, as it does fade into the background more. Thar is a minor point. And of course the black is a matter of taste.
I admire your persistent journey with these ideas-keep them coming-they are wonderful !

Wonderful framing and placement – the eyes grab my attention immediately and won't let go! Love the detail maintained in the face and the special background treatment. A very creative and handsome piece of art, Dave!

Now THAT'S a face !! The face is isolated and makes the eyes really grab your attention. I kind of agree with Carol on her #1 comment but it's hard for me to visualize how/if a bit of detail on the chest area would take away from the impact of the face. If it isn't already evident, I'm very drawn to the face which is obviously the intent in this image, and very well done.

I love the face, expression, colour tones, textures and setting.  I think with a little work on softening and filling out that mane to a more even fullness would take this to a whole new level.  I know this is only my tiny one penny worth, and I've seen a few lions with patchy manes but this one makes me think of a star shape (or someone doing a star jump) when I look at that lovely head, and having thought that, I can't get it out of my mind. You know me Dave, I have to say it as I see it.

Thank you Carol. Always happy to hear your thoughts. PS.. I did a risk assessment on hair extensions for lions. Only conclusion was to ask for volunteers, as deemed a bit risky. LOL.

Love the "look" here.
Agree with Cindy on the darkish patch on the right...it was the first thing that caught my eye.
