Thought I'd try an oil painting version of one of the shots I got at Estero Llano Grande State Park in south Texas in April.

This had to be a fine image at the outset, because as a painting it is simply delightful. The pose, composition, and flight angle are all spot-on, and there is just enough texture applied by the filter to provide a lovely painterly appearance. Very well done, Malcolm.

Beautifully done, Malcolm- just the right amount of texture and softness in the background. The duck looks great-lovely detail and , as Ron says, must have been a wonderful photo in the first place. Lovely to see this enhancement.

I love whistling ducks anyway, but this is a beauty of a shot, Malcolm and the subtle painting enhances it perfectly!

Ron, Cynthia, David, Peter and Carol, thank you so much for your kind comments. I'm always a little nervous when I do one of these variations as I don't feel particularly competent with my skill level compared with many that post in this Gallery but I actually saw this image as an oil painting when I was taking it. The background grasses and reeds in that light with the birds flying fairly low to stay out of a strong head wind was what tipped me in that direction. Seeing the end product as you are shooting is such an amazing feeling ... thanks again for the kind comments and the EP.
