This is what we saw today -several thousand Snow Geese with a few mallards mixed in. This is a wildlife refuge in Vermont where the Snow Geese come every year, though numbers have diminished, with some defecting to New York State across the lake (Champlain). There is a surprise bird in there-hint- it was the cause of much honking and circling round from an otherwise placid settle in a distant field. (Pretty hard to see at this size...)
This is only a small portion of the flock. They were very far away too.

What a great scene, Cindy! Reminds me of Bosque del Apache where the snow geese congregate in a similar fashion. It is an awe inspiring event, isn't it. The panorama format suits your image perfectly, and I love the layering: from geese to woods, woods to mountains, and mountains to sky. Beautiful work.

I'm thinking there must be a raptor in there somewhere, but can't find it at this size. :)

A beautiful scene with all the layers and the geese are gorgeous against the soft blue tones on the distant landscape.

You're right Carol. Top center-it's a Northern Harrier...and no, you wouldn't be able to tell.

Actually, it's a ring-billed Gull, I have been informed!

Yes, I did see that one but thought it couldn't be a raptor as its got black wing tips, like a sea bird/gull so discounted it....... :)
