At night, during the fall, I love to listen to the calls of migratory geese flying overhead. I dream of sometime seeing them silhouetted against a full moon, but that has not come to pass. So, I created this composite. The geese and the moon were photographed separately at approximately 800mm. The geese were photographed at Bosque del Apache and converted to silhouettes in PS CS6. Recent research reveals that geese at night gain north/south orientation by the rotational pattern of the stars. Thus, the title, "Celestial Navigation," and the addition of a fantasy star or two. This image really needs to be viewed full size against a dark background, so please click on the image to see it that way. Thank you.

I'm right with you there Ron, I love to listen to the calls and whistling wings of the skeins of migratory geese and swans as they fly overhead on their journeys.  Such an evocative sound, and one that can make my heart skip a beat.  8)

Your beautiful creation works so well and captures the mood and emotion to perfection.  Love it!

This looks so dream-like Ron- I can just hear the geese calling- such a beautiful moon and star too- I'd like to see this for real also, but you have done the next best thing for us! Thanks-love it! Enjoyed your explanation about orientation too. Sweet dreams.....

Nice collage - love the crisp lunar details.!
It reminds me of years ago when we were photographing a blood moon, and later discovered some birds traversing the image as they migrated south.

Living on a Whooper swan migration route I dream of seeing something similar for real but, like you, luck has not shined upon me... yet!

Wow, stunning!
The detail in the moon, and the dark silhouettes are perfect.
Very well-done!
