I recently went on a photo safari to Kenya. One of my goals was to be a bit creative with some of my images. This is one such attempt. The brightness of the eye was increased as much as I could, as the eyes of most animals there are recessed to minimize glare. Good for them, bad for me.
The image was imported into photoshop and the bottom layer duplicated. The upper layer was converted to black and white, increasing the brightness of the skin significantly. The contrast was increased to bring out more texture. Then the upper layer was converted to a layer mask hiding all underneath. A little painting of white around the eye brought the eye color back.
