This is what happens when Photoshop falls into the wrong hands… :)

Actually, no heavy photoshopping was needed; no mountains, trees or other components have been added, removed or relocated. Just some intense processing to make an image taken in almost full daylight look like a night scene (the colors just won't come out this bold when taken at night).

Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone NP.

wow o wow! very dramatic. like that the whites almost ask for someone while the dark are so scary...

Gorgeous, Jens! I wouldn't have guessed it was anything but "real" night. Love the clouds and dark sky- that helps! The oranges are kind of surreal. Altogether wonderful.

The trick is to do it at dawn when there is already plenty of light, but before the sun rises above the horizon. As soon as the sun is up there is directional light which causes shadows, and since there are no shadows at night it will look phony no matter how much you darken it.
