Wow! I'm looking forward to Sarah Palin chiming in. It'll be shrill and wordy but I'm pretty certain I won't understand a word of it.

Oil company and payed off politician in public:  "The oceans aren't melting, the planet isn't warming, in fact it's getting colder not warmer, just look at this huge storm that's hitting Washington DC right now, it's all just a hoax..."

Oil company and payed off politician in private: ,"Isn't it cool that we stand to make a trillion dollars from all this, hmm, maybe if the earth keeps heating we could make it 2 trillion dollars."

Up until 4-5 years ago I seemed to set on the fence about the whole climate change thing. Not that I did not think the climate was changing and most "deniers" know the climate changes their view is always that man has nothing to do with it. I always felt uncomfortable not being fully committed to one side or the other. I no longer worry about what side I am on but simply do what I feel is the logical and moral thing to do. That just happens to be a conscious lifestyle in which I try to do as little harm to the environment as possible. Plus if there are positive things I can do in addition to that I do them without question. Plus I voice my opinion to others when I see them disregarding the environment.

I don't consider myself an activist, but I may be in denial of that as well. It really makes me mad to hear people make claims that nothing man does has any effect on the environment. It is stupidity outside my level of comprehension.

I struggle with many things when it comes to my ethical obligations to the environment. One of the biggest is my photography. To be specific the amount of travel I do in pursuit of my photography. I don't feel completely comfortable hopping in my car and taking off for the day when my objective is to capture the beauty of nature while at the same time doing something that has adverse effects on it. It is a dilemma for sure. So I have to be careful riding my high horse around when I know if I look in the mirror their will be mud on my own face.

I fully realize there is absolutely nothing any of us can individually do to significantly affect the dangerous path humanity has taken. I'm not certain there is anything we can collectively do that will forestall the inevitable but there are things we can do to slow it and it is personally gratifying to try. I'm currently reading Rat Island: Predators in Paradise and the World's Greatest Wildlife Rescue by William Stoltzenburg and chronicles how a few dedicated individuals, fighting politics and lack of adequate funding have been relatively successful in restoring bird populations to islands. It's worth yur time to read this.
