Red Crowned Crane (Juvenile)
Captive

EOS30, Sigma 100-300 F4, Provia 100F, Handheld, slight crop, flash

We returned to see the Crane Family we had photographed hatching and were sorry to hear that one of the chicks had not survived, probably due to a Weasel. The remaining chick however, has survived and thrived!! - as you can see from this shot. At two and a half months old, the growth is remarkable!! and the white adult plumage is already starting to show.

All comments and critiques always welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking.

Very attractive, Carol. What a beautiful chick. I'd love to see more room at the bottom, but you knew I would say that.

Cool bird! Having the feet complete at the bottom and if possible, shooting more at eye level would take this one to the next level for me.

Nice shot, Carol!
Yes, yes and yes! More room at bottom to include the whole legs ... low angle shooting etc ... But we just don't know under what constraints when you were taking this shot.

Neat experience to watch him grow through your eyes, but I agree with the others the image is not as pleasing as others you've posted. Still a keeper though!

A beautiful bird for sure. I agree with the others that more room at the bottom would be preferable.

It's always nice to have more room at the bottom and be at a lower angle. However, many times neither is possible. I think you've done a great job as is and I love to watch these series to see the progress. You are fortunate to have that opportunity. You've done well with this one.

Not so cute now. :) The image would have been improved had you managed to not chop off the toe. Otherwise, I love the detail on the bird.
