As the days are getting shorter, the sun is setting at around 7:50 pm now, we are reminded of the great summer we have had photographing, watching and some times just sitting and listening to the Tundra and its habitants.

Of all of the summer our favourite time was spent with a Pacific Loon family that was in a smaller accessible pond. Memories of seeing them come and go; nest, and then the new chicks will carry us through the dark days for sure.

Here we share a small part of our experience.

Thanks for looking. Comments always welcome that's how we learn

PS some may have seen this or similar shots previous on other sites as well..we thought New NSN members should also see.

A gorgeous shot, love the light and of course the subject - loons! Love the way the adult is holding its head, like it is the proud parent.

A minor nit would be that the parent's tail is really close to the back of the frame - maybe it's under the slide mount? Regardless, I would be proud to have this shot myself.

Waders, eh? :D

Well done, Doug. Exposure is nailed. I particularly like the low angle and the beautiful light. A bit more room on the right would help.

Doug,

What a gorgeous image! If it were mine I'd post it on every site I could think of. Gorgeous light, pose, and the little chick is so cute. Gorgeous birds and image!

I'll second others' comments about a few extra pixels on the right, but that's a pretty minor quibble with a great shot.

Really nice. Not sure I'd change anything, as you don't want them any closer to the left edge and backing away would lose some of the intimacy we feel here.
