Bald Eagle
Homer, Alaska

I am going against my better judgment and posting from a laptop, my apologies for any poor processing – it is just so difficult to tell.

We have had snow intermittently for the past two days which has created some exciting opportunities for images of eagles in snow.

Being close to these magnificent birds, and so many of them, has been an experience of a lifetime!

Digital capture with Canon 1D
Canon 500 f/4 with 1.4x teleconverter
Manually exposed at 1/400, f/6.3
Flash in rear curtain sync, +0.3
Beanbag from vehicle

Image comments/critiques appreciated!

I though I was going to sleep well tonight!!!

Image:
Magnificent bird and excellent exposure, great composition as well, rear curtain in falling snow or rain is the ideal flash Sync for the shot, I was so close but could not make it to Homer last year, You have done rather well from the Laptop, Have fun and I wish I was there as well!!!
Congrats!! 8)

Heather, no handicap from the laptop here, the image is right on. Love the comp, snowy stump, the bird and the frozen snow drops.

Wonderful! Love the composition and the snow is a big bonus. Just one question: who brought the perch? :)

Heather:

I like this a lot, the bird has personality and it is well exposed. My only suggestion is to apply a little USM at the bird, select the background and apply a little vertical motion blur, so it will give the illusion of having taken the picture with an slower speed. Congratulations and I am glad you are having such a good time over there.

Warmer than our trip to Barnegat, on the New Jersey shore! It's been about 13-35 degrees, not too bad, and the majority of photography is from the car.

Beautiful image, Heather. The darker grey BG and the snow will sets this one apart. Sweet. I will definitely be there in 2005.
