Subject : Common Tailorbird Orthotomus sutorius
Date: Jan 23, 2004
Location: Tai Po Kau
Technical: EOS 10D, EF100-400mm f/2.8 L IS USM, f/8, ISO800, handheld, this is ~25% of the original , C1LE, Noise Ninja, Focalblade.

[Edit]It was taken by EF300mm f/2.8 L USM with EF 2x II TC, Brightness and contrast adjusted. Since it is an old lens so not distance informaton could have been given.[/Edit]

Remarks: I was tracking this one in the bush along the roadside. Again, thanks to the shutter lag, the bird tries to fly away when I hit the shutter.

[Edit]Here is the original picture unaltered-- appearently, the image above has been overdone.[/Edit]

Hey Griffen. Good timing here or should I say good lag :)

A little too much flash for me. Maybe dial in less compensation. I might also crop in from the top and left as the big leaves compete with the bird. If this is only 25% of the image, you may not be able to do that. Keep them coming.

Lovely image, Griffin. The bird is sharp and in a wonderful position. The excessive flash manifests itself mainly on the large leaf on the left. What setting did you use and approximately how far away was the bird?

Just a bit strong on the flash, but this is an interesting effect - for this shot, the position of the wings is excellent.

Nice result from the shutter lag. I love the wing position. I would crop a little off the top.

Impressive, Griffin! Much has already said about the flash intensity, so I pass this one. Suggest a vertical crop to eliminate the flashy leave on the left altogether ...

I love how his wing frames his head; very sweet!

Allow me while I bang my head against the wall... :? :? :?

I have made two errors here: first the lens used was wrong and I somehow forgot to mention the image had been adjusted with brightness, contrast and sharpness. Since there are quite a few interests generated by this image so I have the look into and clarify all these. I am sorry about all the issues generated by this one. :(

I have posted the uncropped, unadjusted, pre-sharpend, and pre-denoised image above. Please feel free to comment, critise, elaborate and enhance.

Thank you again for viewing.

Regards,
Griffin.
