Taken at LaSalle Pk. in Burlington, Ontario during the Xmas holidays. I kind of like to call this one "The Three Ghosts of Christmas"

It was very cold, with a very strong easterly wind. The swans could hardly keep theirs wings from being blown open. Late in the day with the sun going down, pretty well my last shot.

Thanks for looking, critiques most welcome.

I like it :D

Young swans are sure a scruffy looking lot.

I've never seen mute swans at this stage. I've seen them either as chicks or adults. Appears a bit dark on my monitor and a touch soft. Both easily remedied.

Lat, looks a little dark and muddy. I like to see photo of wild Mute Swans and this is a nice shot.

I should have mentioned this; the darkness was intended to avoid burning the whites, thus retaining a ghostly look. The 'muddy bit' I'm not sure how to remove. :(

Nice shot, Lat. The muddiness Alan mentions seems to be caused by softness. Additional USM might help. My other nit is the overlapping swans.

Wonderful Mutes!!

Image:
Well, most all important points have been covered, but if by muddy Alan meant plumage, this is their transitional tone into their pure white color, sort of temporary Camo so to speak!!, Would work well as a pano , cropping out the rocky shoreline, Saw them east of Potter's Marsh as you leave Anchorage on the way to Seward. but very skittish, Alaska is a hunter's paradise!!!
Congrats!! 8)

Back with a comment on the Muddyness.

It could well be the plumage. In PS CS when you use the shadow/highlight filter to darken the whites/photo, it can looks like this too. It's probably the plumage.

Very nice. I like the pano crop idea. :)

I think you can adjust levels further to brighten up the detail without blowing it out. Then a touch more USM and you've got it!

Lat,

Nice shot of the trio. I like Alex's idea of cropping out the shoreline at the top.

I've never seen these guys before and I do get a sense of their beauty here. I think a combination of Alex's crop suggestion and some tweaking....perhaps in the new shadow/recovery tool would make a big difference with this one.
