I am not sure I have done this correctly...but if I did this Yellow Warbler was taken this past June in Cuyahoga Valley National Park ~ Ohio.
Canon 10D, 600mm + 1.4, ISO: 200. 1/640 sec @ f/5.6

Any input (especially on posting) is appreciated.

Hi, Jim! This is a great first post, bird at song, beautiful colors.

With the 10D due to its anti aliasing it sometimes needs a little extra sharpening (USM) but this looks pretty good here. My monitor is especially sensitive to artifacts from over sharpening and none seem to be present, so that's a good sign, too!

Typically very light colors in the frame can be a distraction for the eye, but I like the presence of the blossoms here. I think it would be even more cool if they had been in focus, too. :)

Nicely done. I'm looking forward to many more posts!

Jim,

Welcome to NSN. Good to see you posting your great work.

Nice first post. Nice looking male and a bonus that he's singing. It does look a little soft to me.

Look forward to many more.

Hi Jim,
You have a real beauty here. The pose and colors are wonderful. All I could suggest to improve the appearance here would be to apply some USM onto the bird. Everything else looks great!

When did you go digital? Are you using the 10D for all your work now?

Jim,
Nice bird to start with. Beautiful colors. I too think it could stand a little USM. Hope we see more from you.

Jim, a lovely shot. As others have noted, the bird needs more USM. The OOF white blossoms are a bit distracting. Perhaps you could tone them down.

Hi Jim, great bird. Sharpness looks good, but could be touched up a little.

Welcome aboard! I love the bird and the open bill. I am undecided about the bright flowers in the background as they pull attention away from the bird. Overall a nice shot though!

Jim -

Good to see you posting here!
Nice shot of this guy. The light and color are great. I like the composition too.
The BG shows just where you find these guys.

Excellent colors and pose. Just try a little USM....I think it will really help do this shot justice. Great job!

I love these little guys and you've got a very nice shot here. The bright highlights are a little distracting but it is still not bad.
In terms of web display, this image need a good healthy dose of sharpening since the detail is there but it is too soft as displayed.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I am at that “I know a little but not nearly enough” stage of digital photography. So since posting I have been reading a lot about sharpening- and posting to the web sharpness- thank you all and good shooting.

Jim
