This male hooded merganser comes from the accumulation of duck photos taken at the early January Duckshop. Altho not prone on the ground with a pod mount I was able to get fairly low for an attempt at an eye-level shot. The water thru which the ducks swam varied widely and bright spots resulted in a fair number of "toss 'ems." Nevertheless, even some of us duck-shooting newbies found them in attractive water at times.
Canon 10D, Canon 400/2.8 + 1.4 TC. Gitzo and Wimberly. ISO 200, 1/200@ f 4.5 (light was fading). Flash BB at -1.6. Full frame.

Joseph, Love the raised crest and the water is beautiful. a tough bird to expose and you did well. PS CS could bring out some more detail in the blacks while keeping the whites, by using the shadow recovery tool.

Fine shot, Joseph. A mild blue cast is present.

Nice one. Light is well balanced, good detail and gorgeous water. Well done.

Great shot.

I think the water is tilted. It looks to me it is swimming on to a slope. I make that mistake often, so now I notice it.

Cheers

Now that's a pose. You might try a little tweaking for detail and color but this one sure is nice. That water is incredible. Nice job!

Nice one, Joe! At least you got a full fan of the crest. A little curves work in PS really makes this pop.
