Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens)

The unchallenged clown of the shallows when active and hungry, here on one of those rare restive moods, A little tight even for taste but by the time I had snapped a few shot and started moving back , the tide was coming in at about an inch per second.
D1x, Raw, Lens=400mm afs-f/2.8 + 1.4XTCIIm FL=550mm, Manual mode, 1/500sec. SS-f/5.6, EV=0, ISO-200, WB=Auto, Fill-flash by the magic SB-800, EV=0, D-TTL, The pile of droppings to the left side of his foot was cloned out for good taste, Levels and a touch more mid-tones for contrast, USM-10%-0.2-0 one pass.
Any comments and or reposts are always welcome!!
A little more contrast was added!!

A little tight but a sweet shot. Looks like it could use some contrast. great BG.

Weird Reddish. It seemed that he stood here for hours. I came within ten feet of him and he didn't budge. Wished I had some Prozac for him.

He makes me smile even now. Great catch Alex. As you said, a little tight in the frame but no biggie - everything else is perfect IMO. 8)

cheers, Oliver

Great shot... I live the monotone BG. I actually have a shot similar to this, but the light is too harsh. I love RE's... they are truly spectacular birds and you have done this one justice. Great shot!

Only tight near the foot, IMO. The pose makes this one for me. 8)

Mighty nice shot! Based on Sandy's note it's too bad you have such skittish subjects to work with.. :P

Love the bird's posture! It is a little tight at the bottom but I still love the image!

Alan, You must understand that by the time Sandy gets through with them, his magical incantations have taken their full effect, when it's my turn to photograph, the bird by then is a goner and on a deep trans dreaming of being somewhere in Xanadu, As I left the beach and glanced back for my last look just after sundown, he was still there in the same position, only his head was visible above water by then, I suspect he is going to be one angry bird in the morning!!!

Nice capture Alex. I like the flow of the feathers, the colors all blend together beautifully.

What a beautiful.....and sedate.......fellow. Lovely colors with detail and BG to die for. And that wind tossed crown is a bonus. Now.....if Sandy has that kind of hypnotic power bring him up here.....I need a little help calming down the wild beasties!!!

Lat, for you and me it's the tidal pool at the North Beach in Ft. De Soto, it rises and drops with the tide, sort of a protected shallow area that gets flooded at high tide and the water drops with the low tide, For the wadding birds it's like a combination Supermarket/Epcot center, food galore and a place to safely socialize, and rest!!, Hope this helps!!

Beautiful picture!
I think the low contrast and subtle colors worked very well.

You really love that flash don't you?
