Common Tern (Juvenile) West Haven, CT

Our local tern colony has really prospered this year and I've enjoyed watching these little birds grow up over the last several months. I had a very nice afternoon/evening this past Sunday shooting the colony... there were >1000 birds congregated and isolating single birds was a major challenge. I caught this juvenile coming in for a landing at last light. I hope that you like it!

Canon 1D, 500IS and 2x, 1/400 at f8, ISO400. Tripod/Wimberley/Waders. Processed with C1/Neatimage/PS7.

Very nice. I would consider cropping just a little from the top to remove the brighter area

Nice action, and very nice light! It looks a bit soft on my monitor -- though the bill is sharp, so maybe it's just the narrow DOF.

Ah, the coveted "wings up" shot...I have tried for this and it is quite a challenge. Combined with the beautiful light this is a really good one, well done!

A lovely shot, Matthew. More DOF would have been nice but fine as is.

A very nice shot in the classic tern post taken in great light. It's a hair on the yellow side for my taste but an outstanding photo.

Wonderful light and action. My only nit is that the blacks don't quite seem dark enough. I never noticed the bright spot on top until I read through all the comments.
