Hello Everyone,

I took this picture in early December of last year. It was taken at Niagara Falls, right at the falls itself. I'm currious to see what everyone thinks of this image. The gulls don't usually fly high enough up into the ever-present rainbow to get photos like this, so the whites are fairly hot but I didn't have much time to try different thigs.

Cannon 10D 100-400mm @ 400mm. Handheld. F-5.6, 1/1500. ISO-400. Slightly cropped.

Good Birding

Looks a bit over exposed and the bird washed out. Loads of potential though if you can salvage some detail digitally.

Brandon, you have quite an assortment of photos that are different and this is a great one. My only nits are the washed out look and the bird is too centered. Upper right would have been perfect, but just getting a rainbow this close is good enough, let alone a bird to fly in front of it. Keep bringing them on.

I agree with Alan. I don't know what the original looked like but I'd say that this has potential with some work in PS. It's definitely a really cool shot.

Great situation, but very noisy. Perhaps the overexposure contributes to the noise. The big marks left and right almost look as if the lens was wet with spray. Don't know why, but I've got rainbow images on Velvia (pushed a stop) that are also very grainy.

I prefer an artful interpretation here. If you could crop just a bit off the right so as not to centralise the bird, I would love to see this hanging on a wall at 16x20.

Interesting to say the least!!

Image:
Conceptually great, as rendered pretty good, but would like bigger feather in the frame, even at the expense of the colored mist!! Congrats!! 8)

The potential is there. The graininess of it just does'nt work for me, however.

This image has potental. Perhaps a combined conversion in Breezebrowser to extract detail from the gull and grain softening with Neat Image or similar software would really bring it up. The rainbow is an excellent BG.
