I have finally been able to capture a nice Coot image without blowing out the bill. And in the middle of the day, no doubt. I got this while shooting with Alan Murphy the other day at my favorite duck spot. I got the angle as low as I could from where we were shooting. Small crop from left and bottom; about 20%. Mild sharpening done in PS. All comments welcome and thanks for looking.

This came out great Wayne. Better than anything I got of this guy. love the comp and the richness of the color. Maybe a wee bit on the blue side.

Thanks for heads up, Alan. It was a little blue here, too. I subtracted 4 points of blue in 'Color Balance'. One day I have to profile this monitor. How's this?

The repost is better although I really didn't notice the color that much. Excellent coot.....I've had my share of problems getting them right. You certainly got it right with this one.

Well done. These guys are tough to et without blowing out the bills.

The detail in the dark areas is outstanding.

The repost is the good one :) . The first as pointed out was a bit over on the blue.

Good job in midday light. The repost is much more to my taste, though the first may be more accurate (midday light is blue).

Excellent exposure. I like how the red eye jumps out at you. :D

Very nice work on the exposure.
A really nice shot!
I didn't notice the blue on the first post either.

Cliff hit the nail on the head about the noon sun. I am learning that midday light is so much cooler than morning or late afternoon. The blue is very subtle in the first post and is more easily seen in the lighter gray area on the Coot's back.

But as Cliff stated, the blue cast is probably more representative of what the light was like. Thanks for the input, Cliff.
