I realize that I need to get lower to get a better angle, but other than that what other crits are there for this image.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your own critique. Nothing to add to that :)

I do like the smooth water and the blues in it a lot.

A bit of fill might make the bird pop more but doesn't need it. Like the water ripples and soft colors.

Hi Rob, I love the composition and the sharpness and the blue water. Sometimes you get more substantial reflections working from a standing position than when on your belly, and in addition, you'd likely lose most of the blue water by getting lower... The problem here, and the reason that some are suggesting the use of fill flash, is, IMO, one of poor light angle. I am not exactly sure where the light is coming from but it's not from over your shoulder, that's why parts of the bird itself are in shadow.
Best, Artie

Rob,
My only nit is the angle, just like you mentioned.

Getting lower is definitely a requirement with these birds. I also know that sometimes that's not possible. A good effort with this one....with good detail.

I like the water tones here, too, and the reflection is cool. I can't add to your self critique.

You might try a vertical portrait with the reflection, which is very nice. Otherwise, I'll agree with everyone else. :)
