Swallow-tailed Kite, Everglades National Park, Flamingo, FL

Alex’s recent images of this species prompted me to dig in my files for this top shot. It was shot this past spring at Eco Pond.

EOS 1D, EF 400/5.6L, manual exposure, 1/1000 @ F8, ISO 250

Spectacular! I remember you running all over trying to get close as possible when he would suddenly swoop by. :) While I like some of my STK shots, I've got nothing in the ballpark of this one.

Superb shot Greg. I really like the comp with the bird on the diagonal with all those lovely little curves of the bird. The top view is great and a head angle so both eyes are visible puts this way over the top for me.

Greg, this captures the grace of the STK better than any image I've seen. It is magnificent.

This one is very cool and I like that the DOF was sufficient to keep detail from bill to tail.

Greg,
This is the best flight shot I've seen!
Well done.

Hi Gregory, This one is totally amazing. I had no idea of what they looked like from above. And in addition, it's not bad for a publisher...

Greg, you are the ruler of the unconventional flight shot! I have never seen this bird at all, and really enjoy this unusual perspective. Well done!

Greg,
I've seen it before and I like it just as much now as then. Cool shot.

This work is of the highest quality, both photographically and in terms of the fieldcraft needed to place yourself in the position to make the shot. Great stuff.

Greg, Top shot is right, nothing tops this shot. This is incredible. I've tried for this, so I know first hand how fantastic this is.

OK, that's it - Greg can't post for a week! :P This is way over the top. What a killer image. Love the DOF and the feathers on the top of the wing are tack sharp. Love it - no nits in sight.

I don't know what these acronyms are and was pleasantly surprised to see the image when it came up. Of course you know I love this photo, charged with action! The detail is wonderful, too. Not an easy bird to keep in the viewfinder for sure.
