Shot at Cuyamaca lake. I know him being turned away is not the best shot. But I still like it. I think the composition could be a bit better too.

Nikon N90s
Nikon ED AF 300mm f.28 w/a TC. I think it was a 1.4?
Fuji Sensia 100 -2/3
Tripod

ALL coments welcomed
Thanks

Jason, nice catch! You have already pointed out the main issues with this image, though composition is actually OK. For my taste, the wing color blends too much with the BG so the bird does not stand out enough to have the desired impact. Keep working with them, they are wonderful subjects!

I wish I was taking photos of Canada Geese! I think they're cool birds.

I don't mind the shot from behind so much, but the bird does match the background a bit too much and gets lost. Now if you had gotten it against that lower green.... :)

With the F2.8, even with a 1.4, the background should be able to be blurred more. Unless you cropped this a bit too. It also looks like the critical focus was in front of the bird, although it's not easy to tell from the scanned image.
I like the pose. Next time, try putting the center of the bird at the lower 1/3 point of the frame.
