I'm at Long Beach Island, NJ. I need help with the ID since I have no guides with me. Taken yesterday. This fellow is feeding on the exposed seaweed on the jetty rocks. For most of the day the jetty is under water, but for a few hours of low tide when the rocks are exposed.

10D, 100-400 at ISO400, fill at -1, EV at -1. Posting from my laptop. 15% crop from the right. Hand held.

Comments and reposts welcome.

Jim

Looks like a Sanderling to me! (not that means anything, I've been wrong more than right). I like that you got him on the green seaweed, I've only been able to get them on sand. Very nice image!

100% definitely a sanderling. Nice shot indeed Jim. There were a few of these at DeSoto when I ran into you there last week, though we didn't pay them much heed with the Godwits, Curlew, Reddish Egrets, Dowitchers and Plovers around :)

I wouldn't know a sanderling if it flew into the side of my head so thanks for posting a very nice photo of one. I do believe a handful work there way down here each summer. I'll be keeping my eyes open.

Lovely shot, Jim. The moss gives it a nice touch.

I like this a lot - especially the green mossy rocks!

Not your typical sanderling shot. Stands out so much better against the dark moss than the typical shot against sand. Nicely done.

A very nice Sanderling shot....those little buggers are hard to shoot. I especially like the moss......certainly gives a nice touch of color. Many that I have seen hang out in the brown mud....not particularly an attractive setting. Good job with this one!!!

Nice catch, and like many have commented, great job getting it in the greenery.

Wonderful work overall. Getting the back more in focus would put it over the top for me.
