Lily Knows her stuff.

This is incredible. Fantastic pose and comp. The open bill and open wing put this over the top. Killer BG too.

Sweet shot, Jim, with great action. The texture of the neck feathers is great. I'd love to be able to see the back of the neck. Light fill may have provided a discernible catchlight.

Jim,

Great gaping beak shot. Fill flash probably would have improved this, but still great.

I like the framing and the open beak ... Very nice, Jim!
Yes, some fill might have helped for the eye and dark body ...

Jim,

Nice shot. I agree with the members above about a little fill for a catch light. Very well done.

Beautiful shot Jim! I think had you zoomed back just a touch and included the whole neck it would have been over the top, but sweet as is!

You made me think about the wonderful lunch that Lilly prepared for us when we were there....

Hey Jim, Lily has good taste! I like this image a lot - the graceful curve of the neck and the detail in the feathers, plus the open beak completes the composition. I have a very similar shot which this has inspired me to post.

Neat shot! I didn't even notice the lack of catchlight till others pointed it out. Who's looking at the eye? :)

Hi Jim, Great job of capturing the peak of action. Had the bird turned it's head a bit towards you, or had you been a bit to the left, the light angle relative to the head angle would have been improved and a catchlight might have resulted... Sharp as can be. And dramatic.
Best and love, Artie

The action implied by the open bill always adds to the impact of the image to me. Nice shot.

One more vote for a touch of fill flash, but I love it as it stands as well. That open bill with the wing stretch is excellent.

Nice behavior and light in this one. I like tightly cropped shots like this but this one is too tight, the neck cropped and room in front of the bill is the only complaint. Fantastic detail and exposure.

Jim,
I like it pretty much as is. The lack of a catchlight does not bother me because there is plenty of detail in the eye. IMHO, having all of the bird's neck would do more for this shot than a catchlight.
