Hey Guys, I'm so glad to have found you all.

I'm jumping in with this setup that I did a few weeks ago near a nest box at my local golf coarse. I supplied the perch with color impact in mind. Even the bug supplied some color.

Nikon F5, 600/4, 1.4X, Provia 100F.

Alan,

It all works, the colors, the perch and the bird. The bug is a plus.

Beautiful colors and a wonderful bluebird. Gotta love the insect....that's what really makes it special.

Alan,

Love the setup, and about 85% of the bird, especially the bug. I do have a question, or maybe an observation. It seems to me that Provia film seems to completely blow out bright blues, especially in bluebirds and indigo buntings and make the blues seem almost neon in color, when in nature, no bluebirds or buntings (at least that i've seen in the states) have anywhere near that color tone. Do bluebirds in Texas truly have that shade of bright vibrant blown out blue as is shown on the parts of the wing in this photo? The color on the head of the bluebird is precisely the color I would expect, and seems exposed absolutely perfectly along with the eye, the bill, the bug etc. Its just the wing tips that seem way overblown (as what seems to me to be the norm from a lot of the Provia scans i've seen of various "blue" birds)

Gorgeous shot, Alan. You seem to always handle color so well. Where'd you buy the bug?

Hey Chris, Thanks for the comments. Yes, I believe Provia does saturate the vibrant colors a lot. Texas Bluebirds do not have more blue than other states. I actually didn't notice it until you pointed it out. I did have some strong light on this bird and have found that in these situations any bird with iridesence shows a lot of white in the colors making it so bright and exaggerated. Hope this helps, Alan

Hi Alan---the brilliant colors and bird with a bug make this for me. It would be a good illustration in "Birds 'n Blooms"!
