Osprey
Kissimmee, Florida

Thanks to the hospitality of Jim Neiger, Greg and I got the chance to photograph in Kissimmee during our May visit to Florida. There were many highlights of the trip for me, and photographing the Ospreys was certainly one of them.

I am working with a new monitor (again) and would appreciate any comments on how the image appears from a post-processing perspective. Hopefully this will be the last change in monitors for me for a while - I have been through four in the past year!

Digital capture with Canon 1D
Canon 300mm f/4 with IS turned off, handheld
Manually metered at 1/1000 and f/8
ISO 250
Flash set to high speed sync, -.3

Image comments/critiques appreciated!

I must be doing something wrong. I've been using the same monitor for over 3 years now.

seems pretty good to me - I like the dark color. At any rate, I wish that I had been able to do as well with an Osprey

It looks good on my screen. I was just wondering why you didn't use the IS on the lens when you were hand holding?

Heather,

Image looks fine on my calibrated monitor. Also nice job on the Osprey. In a perfect world, the head might be a little higher so that it does not get lost in the body. :D :D

Nice one Heather. I'm glad you got so many good images when you were here. The osprey and others will be waiting for you when you come back.

Heather,

This is very nice. The exposure looks good and I like the wingspread. It's nice being able to see both eyes.

Hi Heather, The image looks fine on my laptop, but the head does look a bit lost... BTW, I was wondering, is an Opsrey related to an Osprey? (I should know as I have spelled it that way many times...) <smile>

Colours appear fine on my screen. A good in flight shot with some excellent underwing detail. Nice shot :).

Heather,

Looks fine on my laptop. The slight head turn makes it.

Todd - I felt I had enough shutter speed to use the lens without IS and wanted to save the lens the added work to stabilize and the related battery power.

Artie - thanks for the spelling correction (must be the teacher in you that picks that stuff up so well :) ). I have modified my post.

Looks good to me too! Love the position of the talons, but wish the eyes were a tad brighter. (And isn't "Opsrey" the British spelling? ;) )

Just don't ever call a Kestrel a Kestral - Artie really hates that error

The wingspread is great and the overall presentation looks good although a bit under. I too wish the head and eyes were visible.
