Well...lets see how this works. Since this seems to be the week for shorebirds, I thought I'd post a Killdeer for my first post here. I am looking forward to seeing many old and new friends here. Great job guys!!!

Last week I decided to drive 6 hours to Conneaut, OH for the shorebirds. On the way up I learned of the blackout. I had just enough gas to get there so I headed to the lake and shot in some wonderful light. When I went to the hotel I had to be led to my room with a flashlight. No food, no gas, no airconditioning, no power to charge batteries. Fortunately the power came on around midnight.

This killdeer had just finished taking a bath and was fluffing up. I liked the shot but I'm not sure I liked shooting shorebirds there. I was in the mud and at one point I sunk about 4 inches when I sat down.

Lana,

Nice one and a low angle. You only get that as you sink into the mud :D :D

Sweet shot in the water. I rarely have seen Killdeer in the water. The fluffed up look is great.

Love the fluffed up look and the beautiful water! The turn towards the camera is sweet, too.

So glad to see you posting here. :D

Wonderful shot, Lana. The bird looks so indignant. I agree with EJ about how fine a photographer you've become in so short a time period. I keep thinking about those early images you sent me.

Hey lana,

As Mike said, you don't see these guys in water too much so this makes a nice shot. Love the ruffeled action and the exposure is right on.

Hi Lana! The brightness, exposure effects and detail of the feather edges looks great and add to a different kind of kildeer photo than I am usually able to get. Looks good!

This was one fluffy killdeer! It looks like you have used some creative PS-filter for this one :D

Lana, you captured a nice moment. If it's possible to read bird's facial expressions, she looks like she doesn't know whether to pursue food or fix her appearance! (We know it's not a "he" - a he wouldn't care :P )

Lana,

This one is extra sweet! I've never seem to get an image of this species unless it's in the mud. This one is excellent! :o

Big deal !!!!
This is what lake water and a hair blower will do to a stuffed bird!!
We all know that Killdeer don't go in the water !!
Definitely a fake !!!!

Very nice. You must have done something to get it so upset looking. :)

Most of my Killdeer images have lots of brown in them. This has lots of blue. :D I like how this looks. With the reflection, this might have been better with a 1.4 rather than the 2x. :?
