Title: AMERICAN COOT - RAIN JEWELS
Species: American Coot (Fulica americana) Photographer: James McIntyre Location: Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge, CA Date: December, 2001 Equipment: Canon EOS-1VHS; EF 100-400 mm f/4-5.6L IS USM, handheld Film: Fuji Provia 100F Exposure Mode: Aperture Priority Metering: Evaluative, +1/3 Scanner: Nikon LS-2000 with LaserSoft Silverfast Ai v4.0 software (IT8 calibrated) Coots are perhaps the most frequently seen but least commonly watched of all North American waterfowl. Most birdwatchers tend to ignore them or regard them as a viewing distraction. Yet this humble marshland resident, when bedecked with backlit raindrop jewels, takes on a regal beauty all its own. It is a Cinderella of the bird world. Last edited by James McIntyre on Thu Jan 22, 2004 1:19 pm, edited 1 time in total. |
