This might be my first bird post in a year on any site. Glad to be back...

I wasn't able to make it all the way down to La Jolla last weekend so went to the next best thing, Bolsa Chica. The Brown Pelicans were especially active this day. By the bridge they were flying all over the place feeding on fish. The off-shore winds were just perfect making the birds takeoff into the sun and be slow enough to capture.

Slight crop to make panoramic.

Cheers

Tom,
Very nice. He is looking right at me. I think the color tones / shades are excellent.

WOW. I love how their eyes actually look like they have goggles on...

I really like the way that you have this image cropped...very dramatic..

Art imitating life....maybe. Looks like a carrier pilot realizing he's missed a landing..love the expression in the eyes.

Tom, welcome to NSN. Awesome post. The face puts it over the top. Love the colors. I might remove the speck just above the birds back.

Love the tones in this. Great capture.

One little thing - is that a dust spot above the pelican's back or something else? Due to the nice clean background it really stands out (to me).

Regards

Jamin.

Thanks all. The spot over the back is a water droplet.

WOW, This looks like another, "I'm coming to sit in your lap" similar to the one Arthur Morris posted. Only this one appears to mean it

The chopped wings don't work for me, but the softness of the light, the complementary background color, and the facial detail sure do. Very nice.

I agree with Cliff that the crop could be better. That look on its face and the soft morning light make up for it though.

The background color and face are terrific. I wonder if the image would be stronger if the crop point on the wing was where the horizontal wing top ends? Just a thought.

Wonderful, Tom. I'm partial to clipped-wing shots. Perhaps a mild crop from the left would balance the image better.

For years I trashed the clipped wing shots I took. I'm keeping more and more..
This one works for me. Great face.
