Hi all, I've been working hard on these SEOWs this winter. A group of 5 have been hanging out at Maumee Bay State Park, a couple of miles from me.

So far I have not been able to get them nice sized in the frame. They don't start flying close to me till dark thirty.

Eos 1v, 500mm IS, 2xII TC, Provia F @ 200. Cropped at least 50% and I'm affraid it is showing so with the grain and loss of sharpness.

The good news is I have some frames on a couple of other rolls waiting to go to the processor and I know I at least got some better image size on these. Now if they are sharp, well exposed and the bird is in good position I will be thrilled!

Thanks for looking and for your honest critiques.

Brian:

Nice job. These guys have a way of turning off just when they are starting to get into range.
I ran your shot through Neatimage I had never tried it on a scanned image and was curious to see how it would work on grain rather than digital noise. Answer? Quite well.

:D

I think this looks exceptional for a 50% crop. The eye is still very sharp. Good luck with the other rolls!

Brian,

Larger in the frame might be better, but this is nice just the way it is. The wing position, the lighting on the underside of the wings, and the view of the eye are all excellent.

I have so few owl shots that I enjoy any and all that I see. This is no exception,
