Sora, Porzana carolina
Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Delray Beach

During a steady afternoon rain, I visited Wak to find myself completely alone, in contrast to the heavy crowd during the morning sun. Set up my camera under a wooden canopy near the Sora. Canon 10D, Canon 100-400, Better Beamer on flash, ISO 400, F5.6, Flash comp –2.0. Wish that boardwalk wasn't so high!

Amazing water droplets, his/her eye almost looks demonic, it's so bizarre I can't decide if it works for me or not, but it sure makes this a fascinating shot.

Looks like you got a little "Steel Eye" from the flash being close to the lens axis. Otherwise a very nice shot for Wako and the boardwalk. :?

Jeff, Love the bird and water. This has a very flashed look to it. I would have thought that -2.0 would just give it a kiss. It could be the shine in the eye that makes it look that way.

Nice capture Jeff! 8) This must of been taken just a few moments before I came along. I got some good shots of this guy too, but none with the rain soaked look. I couldn't believe how many Soras were roaming around in the open. I think I saw at least 12-15 Soras in the open in the afternoon and morning that I was there. Did you get to see the Spot Breasted Oriole and the Snipe that made appearances that afternoon?

Jeff, It's nice to see he's still out in the open, but you need to get your flash away for tne camera more.

Great closeup and colors. I think the overflashed look comes from using the BB. The flash couldn't shut itself off quickly enough and ends up overexposing sometimes. The main reason why I call it the "Better Burner". :)

Very interesting. The flash on camera makes the sora look like a photo of a sora cut out and photographed against a duckweed background.

Cool bird, it looks like you were too close to use a better beamer and the flash output was too high because the flash unit couldn't shut off fast enough. Inside 15 feet, I would recommend removing the beamer.

I like this. Looks like a glass figure you see in a shop window.

I know well how hard it is to get this guy in the open. Good work.
