Long-billed Curlew (Numenius americanus)

When we first saw this bird Sandy and I never though we'll have a chance to get an image of this morsel, skittish, alert , and a walking speed of an Olympic runner, We were so mistaken in our assumptions !!, Not one but three came to visit and maybe two walked (we could not tell if it was the same bird) past us within a few feet, We had waited in situ long enough and he was comfortable with our slow movements, a telltale sign of advance middle age! We had our way with this creature to our hearts desire, Sandy was so please that he did not ask the Curlew for a hug!!!, It was magic, a gift from the Gods!!

Alex, there is a lot more than just the beak that is exquisite. Very rich coloring.

Not only is the light pretty in color but it flows so nicely across the curlew. Just a wonderfully awesome shot. 8)

Alex,

This is gorgeous. Where was it taken? He looks distinctly like an old friend from Fort DeSoto that was equally as obliging to me earlier this year :)

Chas, coming from you is a great compliment, I am indeed touched !!
I am always striving to do better, but there is so much to learn and so little time!!!, First NPN and now NSN have been a great source of inspiration , information and wonderment, I have no choice but to try and imitate all this great work I see here every single day!!!

Alex, the only law enforcement work your daughter should be doing, is putting you away for posting suck a sick photo :)

Love it.

Am I the only one that would like some leg room in this shot?
