Rock Hopper Penguin
Captive
EOS300D, Sigma 100-300 F4 + 1.4TC. ISO 400. F8

We spent a while at the Penguin pools the other weekend. It was bitterly cold - we were frozen!! but the penguins were in their element and thoroughly enjoying themselves acting like torpedos from one end of the pools to the other.

All comments and critiques always welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking.

Great details and sharpness, Carol!
The warm light misled the freezing condition you described totally ...

Carol,

This is outstanding. One of your best, IMO. Great detail and a nice, complementary background. :D

Low Winter sun can be deceptive KK!!! it was only just above freezing with a wicked wind chill, but the BG was sand - which gave this golden glow effect. :)

I don't believe I've ever seen this type of penguin before. It's adorable. Great job capturing the texture of its feathers.

Very nicely done. What a good looking bird. The eye is what grabs me. Its color and iris closed to a slit are very diferent.

He does look warm.....well at least for him, he probably thought he was just comfy cozy. He looks cute...ornery perhaps.....but cute.
