Brown Pelican La Jolla 1-14-04
Here's a favorite flight shot from this week that buzzed the tower a little close (cut off the wingtips) so I cropped a bit to make a pano. Spent the day today shooting with Greg, Heather, Jason, and the rest of the SoCal. members that made it, and had some great flight shooting conditions on the cliffs this morning. I really had fun and hope to do it again soon.

Very nice flight shot, Mike. Great sharpness and color, with a well-balanced crop.

Impressive closeup, Mike!
Some hightlight adjustments in PS will render the underwing detail visible. Love the deep blue sky too ...

Sweet shot. If you could get some detail under the wings it would be super sweet.

An interesting shot - well done. You could probably extract a little more detail out of the undersides of the wings.

Mike,

I like the crop a lot. It would be interesting to see how much more detail you could get underwing as EJ suggests. Maybe do a levels adjustment on selected areas under the wing. I will have to do something similar on several of my Pelican images as well.

Mike,

Nice shot. I like the composition with the crop. The blue sky makes a great background.

Here's a repost with your suggestion to add detail to the underwing area. Thanks for your comments.

I think this is wonderful!
Very good exposure and nice light. Lots of detail and the clipped wings don't bother me at all.
