Hello everyone, I took this picture in Cape May, New Jersey on October 2nd, 2003. The Peregrine was making a sharp turn to the right, while chasing Pigeons. It is one of my favourite pictures so far.

Canon 10D 100-400mm Handheld, 1/2000, F-5.6, ISO 400. I'm still learning a lot about photograpgy, but its been a lot of fun :D .

well, I think that you know enough.... :-) Well done and a "keeper" for sure...

Not sure if it was shot wing tip to wing tip like that, but I would like a bit of breathing room at the wing tips...certainly not a big deal...

Cheers,
Jeff

Wonderful bird and a dream pose to boot, very good light as well!!!
A little more USM could help with sharpness, I also suspect a Falconer's bird ??, I think I can see some flying jessies's !!
Congrats!!! 8)

Great first post, Brandon -- it's obvious to see why it's one of your favorites. Looks like you had your camera set-up perfectly for this and did a great job composing and taking the shot at a great moment. If you cropped this any top and bottom, you may want to put some sky back in to reduce the distance from the wingtips to the frame edge.

Welcome to NatureScapes, Brandon. This is an excellent first post. A little tight at the wing-tips but everything else works well.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

More room would be nice but it would also be nice if this were mine! Great shot and welcome.

Nice catch Brandon. These guys are fast.

Alex, I suspect these are just colored leg bands. Many of the peregrines in the east have them, in fact, sometimes it seems that the majority of them have them. Most of the eastern states monitor as many of the nests as posible and band the young until they are completely recovered.

Very good capture with extended wings and excellent angle. These guys are very difficult to shoot in flight.

I'd just like to say thanks for everyone's comments :D . This was a wild bird, (black over green legband, indicating it was banded in the central USA).

I would also have liked to leave a little more room around the wingtips, but I just barely got them fully in the picture (the top of the picture actually looked like that, it was a really close call!)

Once again, thanks everyone!

Brandon, welcome to NSN and the bird forum.

A great shot here. In Photo Shop you can add some canvas to the photo and extend the sky if you feel the wing tips are too close to the edge of the frame.

You have an almost picture perfect spread of feathers here. Adding canvas as Alan suggests would be very easy with this image. Then you would really have one to hang on your wall. :) Welcome to NSN.

Very nice shot!
I wish for a little more room on top and bottom but i would take it as it is! I think it can handle a little more USM.
