Northern Cardinal Male Central Texas

This was taken last weekend at Pedernales State Park, from a blind for birders facing into the sun.

Lots of birds and several species I don't see in my yard, 20 miles away.

They are often quite cooperative, too.

Great, detailed close-up! Maybe a hair more room on the right for my tastes - just enough to separate his wing from the image frame. Well done. 8)

cheers, Oliver

Jim, you did well with the backlighting here. Nice headshot. I might clone off the junk on the bill.

Still not too late for last week's Motif. I love this shot. I kinda like the junk on the bill. Makes me wonder what he's been up to. ;)

Great job on the flash, Jim. Could you have adjusted the ambient
exposure to darken the BG a bit? Curious.

Great detail and a nice job of flash and exposure in a tough situation. A bit more room on the right would be nice if you had it available.

Well done given the backlighting. An alternate approach would be to underexpose the ambient to tone down the background while increasing flash output to bring the bird back up in exposure.
